Why is your child safe with us? We are family of The Swim Safer Program in Singapore . This is a new national water safety program with incorporated swimming lessons introduced by the National Water Safety Council, halfway through 2010. This is, just like academic classes, a multi-step program with certificate awards of excellence at every stage coupled with a badge to mark successful completion. Successful candidates of stages 4- 6 also get complementary colored pins. Which skills do these program asses in your child? Two words: Swimming proficiency and water survival skills. The technical expertise it instills into your young swimmer speaks for itself. This curriculum is broken down into the following stages. Pay attention, this is the good part.
Here it’s all about confidence in the water. This is obviously a priced pre-requisite in swimming. The child should also develop independence and grasp general skills in both deep and shallow-end water safety. Techniques on focus here are: backward and forward movement, safe entry into the water and exit likewise. Personal water survival skills are also introduced at this stage. This is a one- off stage so unsuccessful participants cannot proceed!
Having made it over the first bump, your child takes on a brand new challenge. Here it’s all about fundamental water skills, simply put, swimming. The skills taught require a bit more sophistication. Step entry into the water without any external help, sculling, diving with the feet first, and water safety alertness in any water body. At the end of this detailing, your child should be bold enough to not only go to the deep end, but also float!
Welcome to the third stage of this technically proficient program. The camera lenses are shifted and it’s now all about personal water survival and perfection of swimming stroke skills. The young swimmer can now move back and forth in the water without any specific stroke making it the perfect time to teach the basic rescue skills. A successful young swimmer should showcase underwater skills, sculling and an apt usage of the floatation device. A 50-metre swimming distance is prescribed and encouraged at this stage
This involves more of polishing pre-acquired skills rather than learning new ones. They are taught how to perfect their swimming stroke skills and personal water survival skills alike. The swimmer should be able to do these things: showcase different strokes, hold their breath under water through a distance of 100 metres. The only new lesson of the day are the principles, some, of water craft safety, the other old lessons keep on rolling.
Just like the introductory stages of the previous stage, this is a refinery stage as well. It focuses on both swimming and personal water survival skills but through a prescribed swimming distance of 200 metres! Things get really interesting at this stage.
This is the epic finale stage also called SwimSafer Gold. Things are a bit more complex and it stretches your child’s abilities a little further. The young swimmer is needed to swim 400 metres and at the same time have good rescue skills, water knowledge and diving skills to write home about.
It is important to remember that this is a fun filled and extremely safe program for your child. However, as a parent, keep your guard up. Make sure you get well polished training instructors who not only understand the concepts of the program but also have a knack to teach and relate well with your child. Also check if they have a proven track record. Ultimately, don’t lose sight of the fact that the child still remains yours and you understand his or her abilities best. Be sure to bring the trainer up to beat with this vital information. Supervise your child’s progress letting hi, or her dancing to the beat of her own pace. Contact us; we will make it all happen.
